what’s your best yes?

Lately we feel like we’ve been tossed in an ocean.   Tossing & turning. For about 8 months we’ve been praying specifically about our Austin Pie Haven location. Should we stay where we are or move to a new location? Should we just do pop up events, cater events? Should we close this chapter of our life?

We would seek wise counsel, we would talk with our people. About the good and the not so good. About being tired. About truly listening to what God has for us. About the season we are in with our kids. We have so many wonderful opportunities in front of us but not all of them are our best YES. Not everything good is of God.

In the last few months we had moved forward with moving the Austin location to a great old house. It felt so good but as time continued on we just didn’t have the desire.   Our hearts feel God telling us to do something else. On Friday, December 4, 2015, Rick mentioned letting it all go. I didn’t know exactly what that meant but God did.

2 days later it was youth Sunday at church & a wise 18 year old was teaching that morning. He spoke on Mark 10:21 & Jesus said, “There is still one thing you haven’t done,” he told him. “Go and sell all your possessions and give the money to the poor, and you will have treasures in heaven. Then come, follow me.” I leaned over to Rick & whispered, “Did you get that?”

As we were leaving to head to Round Top, our Pastor knocked on the car window to say goodbye. We told him how God used his son that morning. He prayed then. And, as Rick & I drove that familiar road it felt great knowing exactly what God wanted us to do. It’s so much easier to make those decisions when he has the wheel.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

Our last day to be open in Austin will be December 24th. Austin has been good to us. Our customers have made it so sweet to be in the heart of Texas. Y’all have showered us with sweet articles & yummy Instagram posts. It doesn’t mean we won’t have pies or cater in Austin. It doesn’t mean we won’t open another Haven down the road. It just means that we are going to step back for now. Close this chapter & start a new one. Lessen our load. Be still for awhile & truly listen to him & enjoy our 2 boys. Head back to the country.

So, come enjoy the pies these last few weeks.   And, follow us on IG to keep up with where we are going & what is happening. Where the path leads…And, there will always be pie in Round Top.

I was so proud of you for opening the Austin store – so impressed with your ambition. And I am so proud of you for closing the Austin store – so impressed with your commitment. I love you sister!

Tara, I admire your desire to do what God wants for your family. To unselfishly seek His purpose and will for this season of their and your life.
I was just writing a devotional about living a life of “regardless.” Mary said “yes, God I’ll have your will, do it your way “regardless” of the circumstances to come:good or bad.”
You will never regret living “regardless” for your family and God, He always blessed it.
Bless you as you enter this new season!

So much to do, so little time. It will always work out. Listen to the little voice inside.

Amen honey pie. Barely keeping our head above the oceans waves and above the fray is not how God wants us to live. He wants us to step out onto the water and walk not sink, trusting Him with every step. The easy thing to do is to keep going and the brave thing to do is close. Stepping into an unknown is always challenging, but stepping out into faith is always a blessing. Your light will shine no matter where you choose to bake those delicious pies, place your feet and offer your hands to help. “Let your light so shine before all men that they may see your good works which glorifies your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 Love you sweet friends. Perhaps this means you will have time for camp!!!!!! xoxox

I’m so sorry you had a struggle with that decision. It’s difficult to step back. But I know God is leading you exactly where you need to be, and I have peace knowing you also know that. All the best!!

    xoxo,

I am Susan hickeys grandma, we were blessed to come to your haven in round top and in Austin. Austin was a special place as we visited Susan. God is faithful to lead you, and the safest and best place to be is in the center of the center of His will. Your faith looks ahead to His open doors. Merry Christmas.

Tara, I remember those times in my life when physically it was so difficult to wear all the “hats” of wife, mom, business woman, friend, family member. It is hard and truthfully impossible to be all things to all. I can imagine how difficult a decision it was, but am quite sure it was right. May you continue to let His hand guide you.

I don’t know if it was a matter of location, but I wish you’d reconsider to opening in Southwest Austin. You would be incredibly popular out here & this is probably one of the most heavily populated areas in town.

    Please reconsider.
